Development Principles
Uncertainty is Okay
Product Development is inherently risky. It is common for projects to start without full definition or specs. That’s okay – our team is adaptable and will learn with you.
Lean Startup is The Way
The principles defined in The Lean Startup are at our core. A project of ours was featured in the book, and the concept of rapid development cycles is part of who we are.
Speed Matters
All product development projects include a time element. Often time is a key development constraint, and we can tailor an approach that works for your timeline.
How it all began…
SGW Designworks was founded in 2008 by Tasche Streib, Ryan Gray, and Mike Witt. The three had worked together in the corporate world, on industrial product development and specialty equipment projects for a fortune 500 company, and realized that it was very difficult to find qualified businesses to help with development challenges ranging from product design to manufacturing planning.
Initially using a local coffee shop in Boise, Idaho as a primary office, the three founders worked hard to develop a reputation for insight in development, and integrity. In 2012, an SGW Designworks project was featured in The Lean Startup by Eric Ries, which was a NYT #1 Bestseller. This gave the business a boost, and word began to spread. The team started to grow steadily, and includes over twenty people.
The team is passionate about developing rugged products. The capabilities of the team have evolved greatly since 2008. Today SGW Designworks provides full product design and engineering to businesses of all sizes. Our development team typically runs ten to twenty projects in parallel. This includes mechanical design, industrial design, machine design, electronic product development, and more.
Ruggedized products in the industrial space are a specialty of the team. Ths includes complex electromechincal products, specialty equipment, and more. Many of the projects we work on focus on products that will be produced in medium volumes, from 1,000 to 10,000 units per year.
Our unique engagement model ensures immediate impact, and trust-driven relationships with our clients.
