Enclosure Design

We design a wide range of enclosures from complex electronics enclosures to large equipment enclosures to low-cost injection molded enclosures.

  • Electronics enclosures
  • Equipment enclosures and configuration
  • Low-cost injection molded enclosures
  • Large rotomolded enclosures
  • Sheet-metal enclosures, housings, and shrouds
  • Environmental resistance
  • Ingress protection
  • Seal design
  • Latching mechanisms
  • Thermal management / heat rejection

Electronics Packaging

  • Electronics enclosures
  • PCB mounting
  • User Interface (UI) design
  • LED design and light transmission
  • Thermal management / heat rejection
  • Environmental resistance related to heat, vibration, and mechanical shock
  • MIL-STD-810G

Ingress Protection and Seal Design

  • Water and dust ingress protection
  • Seal design
  • IP rated
  • Washdown resistance
  • Underwater enclosures
  • Latching and clamping mechanisms

Ruggedization

We frequently optimize the durability and reliability of hardware in harsh conditions. We design for:

  • Temperature resistance
  • Chemical resistance
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Vibration, impact, and shock resistance
  • Ingress protection
  • MIL-STD-810G

Machine Design

Machine design is a subset of mechanical engineering and an area of expertise at SGW. We apply this expertise to a wide range of products, from consumer to industrial, when mechanics need to be optimized.

Mechanisms

  • Latching
  • Clamping
  • Lifting
  • Rotating
  • Positioning
  • Actuation

Power Transmission

  • Mechanical (gear drives, chain drives, belt drives, rack and pinion, etc.)
  • Hydraulic
  • Pneumatic
  • Conveyance

Fixturing and Tooling

  • Manufacturing equipment
  • Robotic end of arm tooling (EOAT)
  • Test fixtures and jigs
  • Assembly fixtures and jigs

Electromechanical Systems

Many products incorporate coordinating mechanical and electrical systems. Also referred to as mechatronics, these electromechanical designs leverage multiple disciplines. In development, parallel efforts need to be managed carefully to ensure designs converge to a viable, unified solution.

For products centered on electromechanical design, we often leverage these disciplines:

  • Industrial
  • UI/UX Design
  • Electronics and Embedded Systems

Engineering Analysis

We apply engineering analysis through traditional and advanced computational techniques. Common analysis subjects include:

  • Loads and stresses
  • Heat transfer and thermodynamics
  • Fluid mechanics

Simulation techniques such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) are commonly used and often paired with experimental techniques for effective analysis.

Materials and processes we commonly design for

  • Injection molded plastic
  • Overmolding
  • Rotomolded plastic
  • 3D printing
  • Machined components
  • Sheet metal (bent, laser-cut, die-cut, welded)
  • Stock metal cross-sections and weldments (plate, tube, channel, angle, etc.)
  • Aluminum extrusion
  • Die-casting
  • Off-the-shelf components
  • Various rubber sealing components
  • Various coatings and paints
Testimonials

What our clients are saying.

"These guys get it. They are a rare blend of creative and technical talent. Honest, flexible, fun to work with and incredibly competent. As a designer, they make me look good, bringing my ideas to life through their insight and experience."

Preston Lewis, Co-Founder & CCO

"I have worked with the team at SGW on a handful of projects, and I continue to be impressed with the depth and breadth of talent and capabilities they bring to the table. SGW is easy to work with, competent, and they operate with integrity. They make you want to do more business with them. Highly recommend!"

David Sheehan, Engineering Manager

"The team at SGW Designworks was able to identify and test multiple solutions to a complex development challenge in a short period of time, then carry those findings over to a full development effort. This had a real impact on the speed of our development project."

Recent Projects

Spartan Radar

Radar Startup Product Development

SGW Designworks partnered with Spartan Radar, a software-focused startup, to provide comprehensive product development support for their radar sensor hardware. This involved establishing a robust physical system architecture, managing the complex hardware project, and executing the mechanical design, while also guiding the client's green electrical engineering team. The goal was to quickly develop functional prototypes to showcase their software to OEMs.

Black Box VR

VR Gym Equipment

SGW Designworks helped Black Box VR develop mechanical hardware and VR game controllers for its immersive workout machine.

AMT

Robotic End-of-Arm Tools

SGW Designworks provided system engineering and design for a highly configurable box grabber system that would fit a wide range of products.

AllTerra Arms

Precision Bolt Action Engineering

AllTerra had developed prototypes of an advanced, high-precision bolt-action rifle. But tolerance requirements in the action design made cost-effective manufacturing impossible.
